Real Madrid have filed a complaint with the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee after La Liga referee, Juan Martinez Munuera, neglected to include an incident of alleged racist abuse toward Vinicius Jr in his match report.

The Spanish club took on Osasuna on Saturday, 16 March, at El Sadar Stadium in Pamplona, Spain. Madrid walked away with a 4-2 victory, but the match was overshadowed by insulting chants from the fans in the stadium.

“Our club has filed a complaint with the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee regarding the match referee Juan Martínez Munuera, owing to the negligent drafting of the refereeing report,” Madrid said in a statement, released via their official website on Monday, 18 March.

“The official omitted, in voluntary and deliberate fashion, the insults and humiliating chants directed towards our player on a repeated basis, despite his attention being drawn to them continually by our players as they were happening,” it went on to say.

In response to the press release, Osasuna acknowledged that their fans had hurled insults at the visitors but the comments “had no racist references” before going on to add: “The club will not tolerate the tarnishing of the reputation of the Osasuna fans.”
