Rashford Stuck Between Barcelona Extension and Man U Return

April 24, 2026

Barcelona have reportedly decided against triggering the £26.1-million buy option for Marcus Rashford.

While the 28-year-old Manchester United loanee has enjoyed a productive season statistically – tallying 12 goals and 13 assists in 44 appearances – his future at Camp Nou has grown uncertain following a series of high-profile lulls.

Club officials were reportedly unimpressed by Rashford’s inability to influence major knockout fixtures. He did not score any goals during Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final exit and their Copa del Rey semi-final loss, both against Atletico Madrid. This dip in form during Raphinha’s injury absence has shifted Barca’s focus towards other targets, such as Julian Alvarez.

Despite the cooling interest in a permanent transfer, sources suggest that the Spanish giants may propose a second loan deal.

For Manchester United, offloading Rashford’s £315 000-a-week salary remains a priority for owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as the club nears UEFA Champions League qualification. While Barca coach Hansi Flick continues to utilise Rashford for the final La Liga title push, the forward faces a crossroads: a return to an uncertain role at Old Trafford or a prolonged stay in Catalonia under revised terms.
