Prepare for Landing: Nigerian Flight Wrecked by Turbulence
What was meant to be a peaceful flight turned into panicked chaos as a Nigerian Air Peace Boeing 737 broke its nose gear during an emergency landing.
According to local news outlets, the plane – which was returning from Port Harcourt, Rivers state – was diverted to Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, Nigeria after encountering severe turbulence on Tuesday, 23 July.
Whilst landing, the passenger jet abruptly lost its nose wheel then collapsed, which caused passengers on board to panic.
Once the plane had stopped, several passengers took to social media to share their harrowing experience.
One user posted a video on Twitter of the emergency landing from inside the cabin, which showed passengers shouting and yelling.
No casualties were reported among the 133 passengers and six cabin crew, however a handful suffered minor injuries.
An investigation has been launched to uncover the cause of the mechanical failure.
