Postecoglou Faces Forest Fan Fury After Winless Start

October 03, 2025

Ange Postecoglou is battling for his future as head coach at Nottingham Forest after a miserable opening run has left him without a victory in six matches.

The 60-year-old Australian – who was appointed less than a month ago to replace Nuno Espirito Santo – saw his side fall 3-2 at home to Midtjylland on Thursday, 3 October; the Europa League match was their first European encounter at the City Ground Stadium in Nottinghamshire, England, in nearly three decades.

The defeat, marked by two set-piece concessions and a late third on the counter, triggered chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning” from the local crowd, who also serenaded Nuno’s name in defiance.

Postecoglou, who endured similar defensive problems at Tottenham Hotspur last season, refused to be shaken by the backlash.

“The fans are disappointed, they’re entitled to have an opinion… I really believe that we’re on the right track,” he insisted in a post-match interview.

Forest have leaked 13 goals under his watch, with defensive frailty and nervousness in key moments repeatedly costing them. The club’s upcoming fixtures – which feature Newcastle, Chelsea, FC Porto and Manchester United – will test both Postecoglou’s resilience and owner Evangelos Marinakis’ patience.
