Pochettino Opens Up about UCL Final Heartbreak

July 29, 2019

Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has admitted he couldn’t leave his house for 10 days after losing the Champions League final against Liverpool in June.

Tottenham had an incredible run, scoring memorable wins against tough teams, such as Manchester City and Ajax in the quarter and semi-final, and the Argentine believed that his team could defeat Liverpool to win their first European Cup.

But the Spurs fell 2-0 to their Premier League rivals and Pochettino struggled to overcome the disappointment; he left the pitch in tears, took the train home and closed himself inside his house for a few days.

He admitted: “I spent 10 days in my home and didn’t want to go out. Yes, it was tough because you nearly touched the glory.”

Pochettino added: “I tried to play golf after a few days – not to play, to swing. I was focused with my son to try to hit the ball perfectly but it was impossible.”

After taking some time to recover, and with the help of his family, the 47-year-old says he is now ready for the new season.
