Pique Twitter Post Suggests Neymar To Stay at Barca
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has suggested on twitter that the Brazilian international and Barcelona forward Neymar da Silva Santos Jr. will not be leaving the club.
Pique tweeted a picture of himself and his teammate on Sunday night, with the caption, “He stays”.
The tweet comes amidst speculation that Neymar has been planning a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Contradictory reports in French and Spanish media have suggested both that Paris-Saint Germain had agreed to pay a record £200 million to release Neymar in a done deal, and that the super striker had decided to stay at Barcelona.
The tweet came just hours after Neymar dazzled in a pre-season match against Juventus, scoring both goals, and winning the match 2-0.
On Friday, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde dismissed rumours of Neymar’s transfer.
Valverde said, “He is with us right now. One of us. It’s a player we love and want. Not only football-wise, but also for the things he brings to the locker room.”
According to soccer website ‘Diaro Gol’, Cristiano Ronaldo discouraged Neymar from making the move. The Real Madrid star and Neymar have reportedly built up a good relationship, and keep in touch regularly. Ronaldo told Neymar that it would be a “big mistake” to leave Barcelona.
A source close to Neymar told ESPN FC that he had “no idea” why Pique would share the image, because as far as they were concerned, Neymar had already told many teammates that he was leaving.
