Pep’s Here To Stay
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola set light to a fury of rumours after he made certain retirement comments in an NBC interview that was broadcast last weekend.
During this interview the Spaniard stated: “I feel the process of my goodbye has already started. I am arriving at the end of my coaching career, of this I am sure.”
Yesterday, Pep denied that he is planning his retirement at age 45.
The NBC interview prompted frenzied conjecture regarding the manager’s future, with news channels recklessly claiming that he would be retiring as soon as his Man City contract comes to an end.
It seems that this was all a misunderstanding, however. Pep now admits that it was “inappropriate” to talk about retirement at this stage – even if it is a distant reality. He is adamantly committed to Man City where he is contracted until 2019.
Having only joined the club in July of 2016, Pep was emphatic about clarifying the comments he made during the NBC interview.
During an interview yesterday he sought to correct any misunderstanding saying:
“I said in the interview that I won’t be a trainer when I’m 60. But I’m 45. I’m not going to retire in two or three years…I love my job and I’m in the perfect place to do my job, especially here in England. I’m not going to train at 60 because I want to do something else in my life…I started playing football young and my career was on the pitch. I want to do something else in my life, but in the next three, four, five, six or seven years. I said that at 60 or 65, I’m not going to train.”
