Pep Guardiola Praised by Ex Spain Manager

June 12, 2026

Javier Clemente has jocularly taken credit for the historic success of Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Luis de la Fuente.

The 76-year-old former Spain manager, who coached the trio during their playing days, spoke to a sports publication on Wednesday, 10 June, and joked: “I have taught them two things: one, what you do not have to do because you already see what result it gives and the other, laugh all you can because they will take the smile from your lips. [sic]”

His former pupils have certainly excelled: Enrique recently won his third UEFA Champions League title with Paris Saint-Germain, De la Fuente led Spain to Euro 2024 glory, and Guardiola recently concluded a legendary 10-year, 20-trophy era at Manchester City.

What’s more, Guardiola’s dramatic final chapters at City will soon be available for fans to witness firsthand. City Football Group has secured a multi-million-pound deal with Amazon Prime Video for a four-part, behind-the-scenes documentary series launching this summer. Directed by BAFTA winner Kevin Macdonald, the series captures Guardiola’s emotional farewell alongside the exits of club icons Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and John Stones.

It promises an unprecedented look inside the dressing room, charting City’s difficult 2024/25 slump and their resilient bounce-back to win the Football Association Cup and Carabao Cup in the 55-year-old manager’s historic final season.
