Pedestrians Hurt as Car Hits Barrier Outside Westminster

August 14, 2018

A number of people were injured when a car drove into the security barriers just outside the UK parliament on Tuesday morning.

The police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was arrested but could not determine if the incident was terrorism-related or not.

The London police tweeted a statement: “The male driver of the car was detained by officers at the scene. A number of pedestrians have been injured. Officers remain at the scene. We will issue further info when we have it.”

Footage on social media showed a handcuffed man being led away by heavily armed police.

The area around Westminster has been cordoned off and access is restricted. The nearby Underground station is closed and no one is allowed entry into parliament.

There were a total of five attacks on Britain last year which the police blamed on terrorism.
