Pakistani Man Kills HIV-Positive Wife
A Pakistani man identified as Bahadur Rind has been taken into custody for murdering his wife after she tested positive for HIV.
According to reports, the murder took place in the village of Sikarpur, located outside the city of Larkana in Pakistan’s rural Sindh Province, where access to healthcare is incredibly scarce.
Earlier this month, an outbreak of HIV/AIDS occurred in the nearby town of Ratodero, where a local doctor – who has AIDS – allegedly infected his patients with the disease.
After his wife, Zareena, tested positive for HIV, Rind accused her of having an extramarital affair.
He also allegedly told the mother-of-four to return to her parents’ home so that he could marry another woman. This resulted in a scuffle which saw Rind taking Zareena’s life.
Roshan Ali, a police officer in Shikarpur, explained: “This morning [Wednesday, 29 May], the husband strangled (the victim) with a rope and then hung her from a tree outside his home.”
An investigation into the killing is currently underway.
