Ozil’s See-saw Situation at Arsenal

February 15, 2019

Arsenal started their Europa League campaign with a painful 1-0 loss to BATE Borisov on Thursday night, but that is just the tip of the iceberg for Mesut Ozil’s uncomfortable stay with the Gunners.

Ozil had previously posted a tweet showing him in training with his teammates, but he was eventually excluded from the team facing BATE due to illness.

In spite of his absence, this did not stop manager Unai Emery from mentioning Ozil at the post-match news conference.

Emery was adamant that the Gunners can succeed without Ozil, stating that the team he chose to face the Belarusian team was skilled enough to win.

He said: “Every player is okay to play. Those that were here, can win with them and we deserved that.”

Emery added: “Last week, we won and we played with the same players. No different performance. We deserved to win but didn’t get the result [sic].”
