Osula’s Villa Transfer Scuppered By UEFA
William Osula will remain at Newcastle United following a failed transfer to Aston Villa.
According to reports, Osula – who signed with Newcastle in August 2024 – was on his way to Villa, who had sold midfielder Jacob Ramsey to the Magpies last month for £39 million.
However, UEFA’s strict financial rules apparently led to the collapse of this impending deal.
“Aston Villa weren’t able to proceed on a deal for William Osula, because it would’ve been characterised under UEFA’s accounting methods as being a ‘swap’ after Ramsey joined Newcastle,” explained sports writer David Ornstein in a recent YouTube video.
“UEFA would’ve seen it as a trade-off, not independent deals. They would’ve amended downwards the profit Villa made on that transfer.”
Bundesliga team, Eintracht Frankfurt, was also said to be interested in signing the 22-year-old Danish forward in a deal worth £30 million, including a buy-back clause.
However, the offer also fell through, meaning that Osula will remain at St James’ Park until the next transfer window opens in January 2026.
