Oscar Whispers For Beyonce
Fresh off winning a monumental 23 Grammy Awards, Beyonce is inching closer to the possibility of winning an Oscar.
On Monday, 16 December, the “BeyHive” went into a frenzy when the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences released the considered shortlists for the 92nd Academy Awards.
Of the nine categories made available, Queen Bey’s “Spirit” track from “The Lion King” is up for nomination in the “Original Song” category. The film also has another contender up for nomination in the same category: “Never Too Late” by Elton John and Tim Rice.
According to the press release, 15 songs will be selected from the 75 submitted and 15 film scores from a list of 170. Both lists will be cut down to five each through voting which commences next month. Nominees will be announced on 13 January.
Despite being snubbed during the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards show – in which Beyonce’s “A Film By Beyonce” won no awards despite being nominated in six categories – the 38-year-old superstar could be adding an Oscar to her awards closet instead.
