One Direction strike gold in SA
The planet’s biggest pop band One Direction continue to rule the world’s charts with the November 17 release of their brand new album, Four.
The band have recently hit number one on SA iTunes with their new album and went gold shipping over 20 000 units in South Africa.
Four includes the worldwide smash hit single Steal My Girl, which stars Danny DeVito in its hilarious music video.
Musically, Four expands One Direction’s sound to become their most complete album yet. Opening with the crashing stadium piano chords of Steal My Girl, the album takes in the likes of the stirring Ready To Run and the unabashed retro pop of Where Do Broken Hearts Go. Slowing the pace for Night Changes (the official second single from the project), the band have once again crafted a spellbinding ballad that easily stands tall with the best of their catalogue to date.
The official statement reads: "As the band become more involved and their song writing becomes more personal with each record, Four is set to be their best received album yet. Contributing to 12 of the album’s 16 songs, Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall and Zayn reflect on the incredible journey they’ve made, growing up in public whilst forging friendships on the road."
With a staggering 94 number ones and over 46 million records sold, in just four short years One Direction have gone from energetic pop upstarts to international superstars. Last year they became the first band in history to debut at the top of the US Billboard chart with their first three albums and were named the IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of 2013 after becoming the biggest selling and most streamed act in the world.
