Olivia de Havilland, 104, Passes Away

July 27, 2020

Legend of the silver screen, Olivia de Havilland, has passed away at the astounding age of 104.

Her publicist, Lisa Goldberg, confirmed in a statement that her client had passed away from natural causes on Sunday, 26 July, at her long-time home in Paris, France.

Born to English parents in Tokyo, Japan, De Havilland and her family moved to the US state of California, where her acting career took off years later.

In 1935, De Havilland achieved fame by starring opposite actor Errol Flynn in the film “Captain Blood”. She went on to star in 49 films, and won two Oscars for the ‘40s flicks, “To Each His Own” and “The Heiress”.

The actress was also well-known for suing Warner Bros. in 1943, when the film studio attempted to keep her contractually bound to them. Her victory against them helped establish the “De Havilland Law”, which prevents such studios from completely controlling a performer’s career.

De Havilland is survived by her 64-year-old daughter, Gisele Galante.
