Nourishing Your Hair on a Budget: 3 Simple Hacks

March 16, 2017

Taking care of your hair and giving it the nourishment it needs is not necessarily an easy (or cheap) task.

Just ask any woman – or man for that matter – who has gone to the hair salon for a treatment and paid exorbitant amounts of money, only to find that the results only last a few days.

That’s why, when it comes to nourishing your hair, the best plan of action is to do it regularly.

Naturally, no one can afford a trip to the salon every week, so we have put together a list of three of our favourite hair hacks that will give your hair the nourishment it needs, while saving you cash in the process.

Another plus is that all these remedies are made of natural products that are easy and cheap to source, which will allow you to give your hair a weekly treatment.

These hair remedies are suitable for both caucasian and ethnic hair types.

Coconut Oil Hair Wrap

Coconut oil is somewhat of a miracle product. Not only is it completely natural, it is packed with healthy oils and minerals that will feed your hair.

What to use:

2-4 tablespoons of coconut oil (the cold pressed coconut oil works best, but regular coconut oil will work just as well)
Clingwrap
A clean towel

How to:

Start by wetting your entire head with lukewarm water. You don’t have to wash your hair with shampoo, you can simply wet it.

Once all your hair is wet, massage the coconut oil into your hair, focusing on the ends the most.

Then, while your head is still warm, wrap your entire head (and hair) in clingwrap and make sure it is tightly wound around your skull.

Next, take the clean towel and wrap that around the your head and leave in for about 30 mins.

Once 30 minutes have passed, carefully ‘unwrap’ your hair from the clingwrap and rinse well with lukewarm water. Gently towel-dry your hair and comb through. Let it dry naturally.

The coconut oil will make your hair stronger and softer and give it a lovely shine.

Aloe Vera & Lavender Moisturising Mist

Both Aloe Vera and Lavender have wonderful moisturizing and nourishing properties; put them together and you have the perfect hair care product.

What to use:

1 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel or oil
3-4 drops of lavender essential oil
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon Vitamin E oil
½ cup of water

How to:

This remedy is super simple to make. Simply add all the ingredients into the ½ cup of water and mix well.

Once you have mixed the formula, pour it into a spray bottle and spritz away!

Keep the mist with you at all times and whenever you feel that your locks need some loving, simply spray your hair with the mist. It will also add great shine to your mane thanks to the coconut oil and will make your hair smell lovely thanks to the lavender oil.

Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse

With all the products we use and the turmoil we put our hair through on a daily basis, it is important to cleanse your hair properly every now and then.

This is where the apple cider vinegar rinse comes in.

What to use:

3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
1 cup of water

How to:

Add the 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to the cup of water and mix well.

In the shower, or in the bath, rinse your scalp and hair with the mixture and follow with lukewarm water.

The apple cider vinegar will strip your scalp of any remaining product and will clean your hair properly. It will also seal the outermost layer of your hair and cover your hair follicles.

A good idea is to follow up the apple cider vinegar rinse with the coconut oil hair wrap to seal in the moisture.

Happy hair days!
