Nobuntu to Perform in Harare

June 22, 2017

Zimbabwe’s leading a cappella group, Nobuntu, will be headlining at the Magitare Live Acoustic Night event in Harare on Friday.

The female vocal group, comprising Joyline Sibanda, Heather Dube, Thandeka Moyo, Zanele Manhenga and Duduzile Sibanda, has enjoyed great success both locally and abroad over the past few years.

The group has performed in the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium and Canada.

In 2013, they released their first album, ‘Thina’, which received major critical acclaim. They followed up in 2016 with their sophomore album, ‘Ekhaya’, which also received positive reviews.

The group was nominated for Musician of the Year at the Zimbabwe International Women Awards in London in 2015.

Tariro neGitare, fellow artist and organiser of Magitare Live Acoustic Night, said that she is extremely happy to have a group of Nobuntu’s calibre performing. The event has been relaunched in an effort to help Zimbabwean artists showcase their craft.

“It has empowered many artists, providing not only a performance platform, but also a professional development opportunity for the artistes that we work with…The acoustic night is a live performance platform infusing different art forms such as music, poetry and comedy in a safe, family-friendly environment. We are hosting it at the Harare City Library as a move to address the plight of lack of infrastructure and spaces for creatives,” she said.

NeGitare continued, saying that the event is intentionally partnering with city spaces to help Zimbabwean artists network with one another and to ‘celebrate Zimbabwean talent’ in the process.

The event will feature performances by Tariro neGitare, herself, as well as Munyaradzi Nyamarebvu and Libert Mathole.
