Nigerian President Meets with Released Chibok Girls
Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, has met with the 21 Chibok girls that were recently released by terrorist group, Boko Haram, after being held for more than two years.
While 21 of the so-called Chibok girls have been released and a few others that have escaped over the years, there are still more than 100 girls being held by the terrorists.
Boko Haram kidnapped 276 girls in 2014.
During the press conference where he met with the 21 girls, Buhari vowed to double the government’s efforts in securing the release of the other girls.
Buhari also promised the give the 21 freed girls the help they need and said that the government would be there to assist them with integrating back into society as quickly as possible.
The release of the 21 girls is the first successful negotiation for release between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram.
Buhari concluded his speech saying that these girls have been through a terrible ordeal and that they now deserve only the best:
“…These dear daughters of ours have seen the worst that the world has to offer…It is now time for them to experience the best that the world can do for them,” he said.
