Nigerian Army Frees Children from Boko Haram Camp

June 13, 2017

The Nigerian Army has announced that they have managed to save at least nine children from a suspected Boko Haram training camp in the Borno State.

According to the army, the children being held by Boko Haram were on their way to a secret militant training camp in Jarawa village, close to the Borno State capital of Maiduguri.

They were rescued from the terrorist group when soldiers from the Nigerian Army were ambushed by a group of Boko Haram fighters, on their way to Jarawa village.

According to Brigadier General Sani Usman, the soldiers managed to fight off the attackers and killed a ‘large number’ of the Boko Haram terrorists.

Usman confirmed that the soldiers had killed a Boko Haram commander, Abu Nazir, who had been on the Nigerian Army’s wanted list for quite some time.

The nine children are currently receiving humanitarian assistance from various charities and will be taken to a camp for displaced persons in Kala/Balge – a local government area in the Borno state.

It is common practice for Boko Haram members to kidnap children and train them for suicide missions.
In a separate incident, Nigerian Army soldiers arrested 24 Boko Haram suspects in the Edo State in the south of Nigeria.
