Nigeria: Suspect Confesses to Hotel Murders

September 25, 2019

A suspect has confessed to the murder of 15 women at different hotels in Nigeria’s Rivers State.

Since July this year, the bodies of these women – many with white cloths tied around their necks and limbs – were found in various hotel rooms around the cities of Omuku and Port Harcourt. Their deaths were attributed to strangulation.

According to state police commissioner, Mustapha Dandaura, the arrested suspect – identified as Gracious David West by media reports – confessed to the killings, after he was recently interrogated at the state police headquarters

Dandaura explained: “[David West] took us to all the rooms he booked, and killed those girls and he said he had killed nine [in Port Harcourt].”

He added: “[David West] killed one in Lagos, one in Owerri, one in Sapele, one in Aba, one in Benin and one in Ibadan, so now we have 15.”

David West was quoted as saying: “I don’t know what is making me kill, [but] immediately [when] the urge comes on me, I kill. After killing, I will start regretting.”

A court date has yet to be scheduled.
