Nigeria: One More Chibok Girl Found

May 18, 2017

The Nigerian presidency has announced that one more Chibok girl has been found after she escaped her captors.

Just over a week after the Nigerian government successfully negotiated the release of 82 kidnapped girls, news broke of one more girl escaping the captivity of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

A spokesperson for the Nigerian presidency, Femi Adesina, said that Nigerian vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, told ministers at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday that the girl was found by Nigerian troops.

It is believed that she had managed to escape by herself.

Vice President Osinbajo also told ministers that the girl is currently on her way to Abuja, where she will presumably be under government care with her fellow classmates until she has been cleared for release and can be identified by her family.

Most of the 82 girls that were recently freed are still under the care of the Nigerian government, where they are receiving medical and psychological treatment.

It has been reported that several of the girls have had to undergo some form of surgery.

It is believed that there are still around 100 girls being held captive by the terrorist group.

The Nigerian government said last week that they are still actively pursuing talks and negotiations with Boko Haram for the release of the remaining girls.
