Nigeria: Another Attack on Oil Pipeline
The Nigerian government has confirmed that there has been yet another attack on one of its state-owned oil pipelines, as militants continue to threaten and attack pipelines in the Niger Delta region.
The hostilities between the Nigerian government and the various rebel militant groups that carry out these attacks on the oil pipelines has been going on for more than six months.
The latest attack on the state-owned Trans Forcados oil pipeline took place on Wednesday.
Interestingly enough, the attack happened just a couple of hours after Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari held talks with leaders from the oil-producing Niger Delta to try and curb these attacks that has severely damaged the Nigerian economy.
The Nigerian economy was once the biggest in Africa, but since the oil fiasco, has slipped to second place.
None of the various militant groups that regularly carry out these attacks have claimed responsibility of the latest one as of yet.
However, one of these groups, the Niger Delta Green Land Justice Mandate, threatened to blow up the pipeline last week.
