Neymar Rape Charges Dropped Over Lack of Evidence

July 30, 2019

Brazilian police investigating rape allegations levelled against Paris Saint-Germain forward, Neymar, have closed the case due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

An investigation was opened in May, after a Brazilian model, Najila Trindade, accused the 27-year-old forward of attacking and raping her in a hotel in Paris.

Neymar has since denied the accusations, claiming he is being extorted for money as the relationship between him and the accuser was consensual.

He went to the extent of sharing WhatsApp messages and images that he claimed to have received from Trindade on Instagram, in an attempt to prove his innocence.

The police in Sao Paulo have decided to close the case and will submit their decision to prosecutors on Tuesday, 30 July.

The prosecutors will then have 15 days to assess the police’s findings, and a final ruling on the case will be made by a judge.

Despite the weight of the allegations, polls have indicated that most Brazilians believe that Neymar is innocent.
