Neymar PSG Debut Delayed
New Paris Saint-Germain signing, Brazilian star, Neymar, may have to wait even longer to make his debut for the French side.
The 25-year-old striker joined the Ligue 1 side last week after a world-record transfer fee of £198 million from Barcelona.
Neymar had to watch from the stands as his team played their first league match against Amiens last Saturday. PSG won their opening match 2-0 against the visitors.
It was then expected that he would finally make his debut this coming Sunday against Guingamp, but according to the French Football Federation, there is still outstanding paperwork that needs to be filed before he can play.
However, should the Federation decide to not refer the issue of paperwork delays to world football governing body, FIFA, Neymar could make the cut for Sunday’s game.
Neymar is still awaiting his international transfer certificate (ITC).
“If the French federation does not start proceedings with FIFA, we could still receive the ITC up until Saturday night,” the French Federation said.
In response, FIFA said that they have thus far not been contacted by the French Federation in connection with Neymar’s ITC proceedings.
According to Barcelona, the delay is due to the huge money transfer and the banks involved. They said that the situation is not unusual, and that Neymar will only be allowed to play for PSG once the money has been cleared in their bank account.
