Neymar Agrees to World Record Transfer Deal with PSG
Brazilian soccer star, Neymar, has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with French club, Paris Saint-Germain, said to be worth around £450 million.
The deal between the 25-year-old striker and PSG is the most expensive transfer in world football history.
According to Sky Sports, the £450 million deal includes wages, bonuses and a buyout clause for former club, Barcelona, worth £198 million.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Barcelona spokesperson, Josep Vives confirmed the deal, adding that the buyout clause will need to be “deposited in its entirety” for the transfer to go through.
Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly offered Neymar a basic salary of £26.8 million a year, after tax. That means he’ll be making around £515,000 a week.
Rumours about Neymar’s possible move to PSG have been circulating for quite some time, but things heated up this week when Neymar was excused from training with Barcelona.
According to sources, a secret meeting between PSG, Neymar, his father and his agent, Pini Zahavi, took place in Brazil in June.
Zahavi, who has been representing Neymar since he was 17 years old, apparently brokered the massive deal.
Sources close to the star have said that he’s been under a lot of pressure from his Barca teammates to stay with the club, but that he ultimately decided to leave to further his career.
Neymar wants to be a “leader” at his club and wants to win the coveted Ballon d’Or, something he reportedly believes he’ll be able to do at PSG.
Paris Saint-Germain have yet to confirm the transfer deal.
