Newcastle Thrash Man United in Emotional Win for Howe
Newcastle United delivered a rousing 4-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, 13 April, dedicating the win to manager Eddie Howe, who remains in hospital with an undisclosed illness.
In his absence, assistant Jason Tindall took command of the troops at St James’ Park Stadium in Newcastle, England; and revealed that Howe had watched the match from his hospital bed and sent a congratulatory message afterwards.
Magpies midfielder, Harvey Barnes, starred with a brace, while Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes also found the back of the net in a dominant display. The win propelled Newcastle to fourth in the English Premier League (EPL) standings with 56 points, bolstering their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification.
Man United, meanwhile, slumped to their 14th league defeat and currently sit in 14th place with 38 points – equalling their worst points tally in a single EPL season. Red Devils manager, Ruben Amorim, admitted his side lacked control and made costly errors, shifting focus to their upcoming Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon.
“We need to get better, we need to improve,” Amorim said with determination, before adding: “The next game is massive for us, and we need to focus on that.”
