Newcastle Sign Fernandez-Pardo From Lille for £51m
Newcastle United have completed the £51.4-million signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille.
The 21-year-old Belgian forward arrives on a long-term contract following a medical, becoming the Magpies’ eighth arrival of the mid-year transfer window.
Head coach Matthias Jaissle highlighted the player’s qualities, saying: “Matias is a highly technical player with explosiveness in his game. He can score and assist, he has courage, and he has the ability to take players on.”
The versatile attacker scored eight goals in 41 matches for Lille last term, helping them achieve European qualification before representing Belgium at the 2026 World Cup. Fernandez-Pardo was eager to complete the move after direct discussions with Jaissle, stating: “In terms of my own career progression, it made complete sense to come so I didn’t hesitate at all.”
The acquisition brings Newcastle’s total summer spend to £262 million and directly prompted further movement in Tyneside’s squad.
German forward Nick Woltemade subsequently departed St James’ Park to join Serie A giants Juventus on a season-long loan deal worth £3.5m, whilst Newcastle simultaneously rejected a £15 million offer from English Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest for winger Jacob Murphy.
