New Tanzanian President Sells Off Luxuries
Tanzania’s newly elected president, Dr. John Magufuli, may just have been placed in power but has already made significant changes to the way in which the country is run.
Instead of spending money on luxury cars for ministers and exorbitant amounts of money on celebrations, he slashed budget allocations and cancelled celebrations and decided to rather spend the money on sanitation, health care and buying hospital beds and equipment.
As reports stated: “…[sic] A state dinner for the official opening of the country’s parliament, for example, was going to cost 300 million Tanzanian shillings. Magufuli slashed the budget to 25 million and ordered that the rest be taken to buy 300 hospital beds and mattresses and 600 bed sheets,”
What an inspiration to see an African leader put his people first.
