New Springbok Coach To Be Revealed in 2016

December 14, 2015

The South African Rugby Union has announced that they will only reveal the new coach of the South African national rugby team – the Springboks – in the new year.

Two weeks ago, former Springbok coach, Heyneke Meyer, announced that he would be resigning from his position as coach and that he would not like to be considered for the position any longer.

Speculation then started on who would be the new Springbok coach.

Many believed that the Cape Town-based Stormers coach, Allister Coetzee, was the frontrunner for the job.

However, other names have also been thrown around, some of which include ex-Springbok Rassie Erasmus, John Plumtree, Wayne Smith and Johan Ackermann.

But it looks like a decision will only be made in 2016 after SARU’s general council met on Friday and decided that a proper selection process needs to be followed and that this will only be able to happen in the new year.
