April 11, 2016

Sierra Leone’s government has called on it’s people to be vigilant about preventing another Ebola outbreak after new cases of the deadly disease was confirmed in neighbouring countries.

New confirmed cases of Ebola have been reported in Liberia as well as in Guinea – both countries bordering Sierra Leone.

According to the World Health Organization, a woman had died from Ebola in the Liberian capital of Monrovia on March 31, after she arrived from Guinea.

Two of her children have also tested positive for the disease.

Abu Bakarr Fofanah, Liberia’s minister of Health has said that while there is increased concern over the spread of the virus, the government believes that closing the borders between the three countries is not the way to fight the disease:

“…[sic] Our findings were that everything was in place and we are keeping a constant health watch on both pedestrian and vehicular traffic entering and leaving,” he said after returning from a visit to the Guinea border,” he said.

Since the outbreak if the disease back in December of 2013, Ebola has claimed the lives of close to 12 000 West Africans.

Liberia was hit the worst followed by neighbouring Guinea and Sierra Leone.

The Health Ministry of Sierra Leone has urged all of the country’s people to be vigilant about the virus and take the proper hygienic precautions to prevent the disease from spreading.
