Munyaradzi Kereke In Court For Sexual Assault

January 12, 2016

Munyaradzi Kereke, a Zanu PF Member of Parliament from Bikita West, appeared in court yesterday for the alleged sexual assault on his wife two nieces.

Kereke told the court that the allegations are a lie and that his wife’s two nieces were ‘conspiring against him’.

Kereke was charged with rape, but plead not guilty to the charge. He claims that he was set up with the alleged false sexual assault claims after an attempt to extort him, failed.

Kereke’s argument was that he wasn’t even present at the crime scene and therefore could not have committed the crime. He is being represented by James Makiya and Nathaniel Chigoro.

At first, the State had bluntly refused to charge Kereke with the rape. However, the two girls then managed to procure a private prosecution.

The first complainant said that the incident of sexual assault occurred in 2010 when she was visiting her aunt, Patience Muswapadare, who is Kereke’s wife.

The girl said that, allegedly, Kereke grabbed her and started kissing her before pushing her onto a nearby couch. He is said to have fondled the girl’s breasts, the court heard.

The girl testified in camera because she is still a minor.

The girl’s younger sister, who is the second complainant, confided in her that she had allegedly been raped by Kereke. This prompted the older girl to report the alleged assault.

The girl was medically examined at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on November 1, 2010.
