Mujuru Says She ‘Always Clashed With Mugabe’
After announcing the launch of her own political party last week, former Deputy President of Zimbabwe, Joice Mujuru, has recently said that she and president Robert Mugabe always clashed when she was still a part of the ruling Zanu-PF party.
Mujuru said that because of her constant clashing with the president and the rest of the cabinet ministers, her exit from the Zanu-PF was ‘inevitable’.
In a recent interview, Mujuru said that she and Mugabe mostly clashed regarding policy issues:
“…I was always clashing with Mugabe over policy issues during our meetings and it was clear that one day I was going to leave government and the party,” she said.
She also cleared up the issue regarding her exit from the leading party after 34-years in its service. While many believed that Mujuru was fired – a fair assumption to make considering her differing views from Mugabe – she insists that she left the party at her accord. Mugabe himself fuelled these rumours, as he announced to the nation he fired Mujuru because she was planning a coup de tat against him.
“…I met Mugabe on the 1st of December 2014 and l told him that my hands were clean and that all the accusations against me were lies and that I was leaving. I bade him farewell…The following day, I stopped attending the politburo meetings and that is when Mugabe wrote a letter to expel me,” Mujuru said.
Mujuru plans to stand against president Robert Mugabe in the 2018 elections with her newly founded Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party.
She has said before that if she were to elected as the new president of the country, that she would lead the country different;y and put and end to corruption.
