Mugabe Urged To Give Birthday Money To Poor
While Mugabe and his ministers are preparing for another lavish birthday bash or the 92-year old President, many people have urged the commander in chief to instead donate the money he is collecting for his birthday bash to the poor.
According to various reports, a teachers union spearheaded the movement that is calling on Mugabe to donate the close to $1 million he will be raking in and opening on his lavish birthday bash and give it to the poor.
The union – called the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe – said that it would be extremely inappropriate for the President to have a lavish, over the top birthday party when there are thousands of Zimbabweans dying of hunger.
Zimbabwe is currently in the middle of a devastating drought and food shortages are the order of the day. It has also been reported that close to 80% of the Zimbabwean population is unemployed and live in poverty.
The teachers union also called on the President to take a cue from newly elected Tanzanian President, John Mugafuli, who has been making headlines across the world for his generosity and fight for the poor:
“…Our president needs tutorial with the Tanzanian president so that we could convert that money into useful use by buying food that should be distributed on non-partisan grounds, or channelling that money to paying civil servants bonuses or even the health sector,” a union member said.
Mugabe and his ministers are busy collecting money for his birthday bash by asking for donations from businessmen and everyday Zimbabwean citizen.
