Mugabe En Route to Singapore for Medical Check-Up
According to a report by Zimbabwean state-owned newspaper, The Herald, President Robert Mugabe is currently on his way to Singapore for a medical check-up.
Mugabe left Zimbabwe for Singapore on Monday.
According to the newspaper, Mugabe is travelling to Singapore for what the government has insisted is merely a routine check-up.
President Mugabe has previously travelled to Asia for medical attention. The 93-year-old has also previously received medical treatment in the UK and the US, as well as other Southeast Asian countries.
The last time he visited Singapore for a medical check-up was in February of this year.
The report also said that Mugabe will not be staying in Singapore for long, as he is expected to be back on Zimbabwean soil by the weekend.
This is so that he will be able to attend the funeral of a prominent former Chief Justice who passed away in neighbouring South Africa last week.
“[Mugabe will return] in time for the burial of national hero, Retired Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku [sic],” the report said.
Mugabe recently returned from a trip to South Africa, where he attended the World Economic Forum in Durban on South Africa’s east coast.
