Mourinho: Wenger, Best Manager in History

February 19, 2019

Former Manchester United manager, José Mourinho, paid a special tribute to Arsene Wenger, who received a Lifetime Achievement award on Monday, saying he’s one of the best managers in history.

The statement is odd considering that the two were once fierce rivals during their respective careers, to the extent that Mourinho once labelled Wenger as a “specialist in failure” during one of their heated brawls.

Surprisingly, Mourinho sent Wenger a video tribute after receiving the Lifetime Achievement accolade at the Laureus World Sports Awards, held last night at the Salle des Etoiles Concert Hall, Monte Carlo.

He said: “There were some episodes along the road. I can only speak by myself. I really enjoyed the competition. But the real respect was always there.”

Mourinho added: “[Wenger] is one of the best managers in the history of football.”

In response, Wenger said: “We had some good fights, and time appeases it always”, which means time has healed his relationship with Jose.

It appears that the ‘Special One’ and Arsene Wenger have finally buried the hatchet.
