Mourinho: David de Gea Wants to Stay at Man United
Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho, says that goalkeeper David de Gea is set on staying with the club.
Per media reports, the 28-year-old Spaniard was stalling on signing a new deal with the Red Devils, due to a slump in form at the club in recent times under Mourinho’s leadership.
In light of this situation, the club was reportedly mounting a £60 million-bid to sign Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, to replace de Gea.
However, Mourinho now believes that all parties are keen to reach an agreement.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday night after Man United’s 1-0 Champions League win over BSC Young Boys, Mourinho said: “I know [de Gea] wants to stay. I know his agent is happy to do what the player wants, and I also know that the board wants him to stay and they are working on that.”
He added: “[De Gea’s] the best goalkeeper in the world, and if our ambitions are to be a big club, a winning club, you need the best goalkeeper in the world.”
