Mourinho Criticises “Naive Boy” Rashford for Red Card
José Mourinho has branded Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, a “naive boy” after Rashford’s altercation with Burnley’s Phil Bardsley resulted in him being sent off the pitch.
During the Red Devils’ clash with Burnley on Sunday night, Rashford was red-carded by referee Jon Moss for headbutting Bardsley, after just ten minutes on the pitch.
The 20-year-old appeared to be reacting to Bardsley kicking out at him. Manchester United went on to beat Burnley 3-0.
Rashford took to Twitter after the match to apologise for his conduct, writing: “I shouldn’t of [sic] reacted like that. Sorry to everyone at the club and all the fans.”
When asked about Rashford’s card at the post-game press conference, Mourinho said: “I don’t know what happened. I would say it was naive. It was a kid and a very experienced man. Bardsley’s been in the game for 20 years and Marcus is a naive boy.”
Despite Rashford’s actions, Mourinho was satisfied with the overall match.
He said: “I am really happy with the performance, the result and to give that good feeling to the fans.”
