Modric Beats Ronaldo to Win UEFA’s Player of the Year

Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric, has been named the 2017/18 UEFA Player of the Year, beating off competition from Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, while Messi finished in fifth position.

The 32-year-old was handed the award during the 2018/19 Champions League group stage draw on Thursday, 30 August.

Modric received 313 voting points, while his former teammate and three-time winner, Ronaldo only got 223 points.

The Croatia international was also named the UEFA Champions League Midfielder of the Season.

Ronaldo was, however, in his absence named the Champions League Forward of the 2017/18 Season, beating Salah and Messi.
