Miss Universe in Turmoil After Clash with Miss Mexico
The Miss Universe pageant has been thrown into chaos following a heated confrontation between executive Nawat Itsaragrisil and Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch.
The incident – which was livestreamed on Tuesday, 4 November, via Facebook during a pre-pageant event in Thailand – showed Itsaragrisil reprimanding Bosch for allegedly failing to post official promotional material.
Tensions rose when the 25-year-old model stood to defend herself after Itsaragrisil’s dismissal, insisting: “Because I have a voice. You are not respecting me as a woman.”.
The 60-year-old Thai media personality then called for security, prompting Bosch and several contestants, including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjaer of Denmark, to walk out in solidarity.
The Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) swiftly condemned Itsaragrisil’s conduct. President Raul Rocha accused him of having “humiliated, insulted, and shown a lack of respect” towards Bosch, confirming that the Thai executive director had been removed from all duties.
Bosch later told reporters that she had been called“dumb” during the exchange, describing it as “disrespectful”. The MUO has since dispatched senior executives to Thailand to ensure a safe environment for contestants.
Despite the uproar, the competition continues in Bangkok, with organisers reaffirming their commitment to diversity, empowerment, and respect ahead of the 21 November coronation.
