Michael Keane Signs with Everton
English international, Michael Keane, has signed with English Premier League club, Everton, from Burnley.
While Keane’s exact transfer fee is not known, it is believed that the 24-year-old signed with the club for around £30 million. He has signed a five-year contract with The Toffees.
Everton manager, Ronald Koeman, had identified Keane as his prime defensive target during the transfer window and according to Keane, is the reason he decided to join Everton amidst interest from other EPL clubs.
“He [Koeman] used to play in my position. I have been fortunate enough that in the clubs I have played in the past, the manager has played in my position as well and I feel like he was a very classy centre-half so he can still teach me things,” Keane told Sky Sports.
Keane is an alumn of the Manchester United academy, having signed with the club on his 18th birthday. He was born and bred in Manchester, and, although there was interest from the Red Devils, Keane said he is happy he decided to go with Everton.
“Of course it was a temptation [to join Manchester United] – it’s your boyhood club but you have got to take your heart out of it sometimes and think what’s best for you, and I feel as if this is the best place for me to come and continue my development,” he said.
Keane has enjoyed success in his career as of late.
He made his debut for the senior English football team in March, during an international friendly against Germany.
Earlier this year, he was also one of six players shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
