Messi to Face PSG After Club World Cup Draw

June 24, 2025

A reunion between Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to take place this weekend following Inter Miami’s FIFA Club World Cup clash with Palmeiras.

Inter Miami faced Palmeiras in a Group A third-round match, which was held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on Monday, 23 June. With over 60 000 fans in attendance, a comfortable win for the Herons – captained by Messi – against the Brazilian side was expected.

However, despite building a 2-0 lead with goals from Tadeo Allende and Luis Suarez, the Floridian outfit faltered. This allowed Palmeiras to mount a spirited comeback in the second half, with Paulinho scoring in the 80th minute and Mauricio equalising seven minutes later.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, guaranteeing both teams a spot in the tournament’s Round of 16.

It also means that Messi will get to play against PSG, whose colours he wore from 2021 until 2023. In other words, the 38-year-old Argentine superstar will have to prove his mettle against former team-mates such as Ousmane Dembele, Fabian Ruiz and Marquinhos.

The match between Inter Miami and PSG will take place this Sunday, 29 June at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
