Melania Trump to Visit Africa

August 22, 2018

Melania Trump announced on Monday that she will be making her first solo trip in October, to several African countries, since becoming the First Lady of the United States.

In a written statement, Ms Trump revealed that she is looking forward to educating herself about Africa’s history and culture.

The First Lady specifically highlighted interest in Africa’s development programmes and humanitarian work, and learning about the issues that children living on the continent face.

She said: “We are a global society, and I believe it is through open dialogue and the exchanging of ideas that we have a real opportunity to learn from one another.”

Her husband, US President Donald Trump, who was criticised earlier this year for making derogatory private comments about Africa, will not be accompanying her.

Details regarding the date of the trip and which African countries Ms Trump will visit have yet to be announced.
