Megan Thee Stallion to Sue Record Label

March 04, 2020

Megan Thee Stallion has filed a $1 million lawsuit against her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment.

The 25-year-old rapper revealed during an Instagram Live session over the weekend that the label was delaying the release of her debut album, “Suga”, after she attempted to renegotiate her contract.

According to court documents, the “Hot Girl Summer” hitmaker – real name Megan Pete – claimed that she was only paid a measly $15 000, after making the label about $7 million from over one billion streams and 300 000 individual track downloads.

In addition, the label would allegedly receive 60% of the income from her recordings, while the rest of the funds would be used for paying engineers, mixers and feature artists.

After recently filing the lawsuit in Harris County, Texas, Thee Stallion was granted a temporary restraining order, which will allow her to release music as planned this Friday, 6 March.

Carl Crawford, the CEO of 1501 Certified Entertainment, has since labelled the rapper’s allegations as “a whole lie”.
