Megadeth Frontman Staring Down Cancer Diagnosis
Dave Mustaine, lead singer and co-founder of American heavy metal band Megadeth, has announced that he has throat cancer.
The thrash metal vocalist and guitarist shared the grave news on his Instagram account on Monday, 17 June.
Mustaine’s post read: “I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on – but I’ve faced obstacles before.”
The 57-year-old rocker added: “I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.”
In the same post Mustaine mentioned that most live shows would be cancelled, [but] a themed cruise – aptly named “Megacruise” – would continue with the band in “some form”.
He also said that the band will continue working on a follow up to their 2016 album, “Dystopia”.
Mustaine founded thrash metal outfit Megadeth in 1983, after he was dismissed from popular heavy metal band, Metallica.
