Mbappe Discharged from Hospital After Health Scare
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for acute gastroenteritis while on Club World Cup duty in the United States.
The French international was absent from Madrid’s opening fixture against Al Hilal on Wednesday, 18 June. Head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed that Mbappe was recovering from a fever.
The Spanish club later revealed that the 26-year-old talent had been admitted to hospital for tests and medical care following a bout of gastroenteritis. However, he was released on Thursday, 19 June, and has since returned to the La Liga giants’ temporary training base in Palm Beach, Florida, where he will undergo further treatment and begin a phased return to team activities.
Mbappe has enjoyed a prolific debut season with Los Blancos, starting 56 games and netting 43 goals across all competitions, while playing a key role in their UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup triumphs. His absence was felt in the 1-1 draw with Al Hilal, which leaves Madrid second in Group H.
The Spanish titans next face Pachuca this Sunday, 22 June, in North Carolina. Hopes are that Mbappe could return to action later in the tournament. Real’s final group game is against Salzburg next Thursday, 26 June, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
