Mbappe Breaks Ligue 1 Record
Kylian Mbappe not only helped Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their 4-0 thumping of Saint-Etienne at Stadium Geoffroy-Guichard on Sunday, 15 December – he also broke a 44-year-old Ligue 1 record.
The 20-year-old French footballer scored twice – first at the 43rd, and again at the 89th minute – placing him at 70 Ligue 1 goals in total, and cementing him in the record books as the youngest player to reach this milestone in the football tournament.
This title was previously held by Bernard Lacombe, who was 22-years-old when he broke the record with Lyon in 1975.
On Monday, 16 December, the 2018 World Cup winner tweeted images of the moment he scored his 70th goal with the caption “Cocktail Explosif”– French for “explosive cocktail”.
Mbappe previously reached a career accomplishment of 100 goals in June this year, and he is expected to smash more records as he goes from strength to strength.
