Martin Zubimendi Joins Arsenal in £51m Deal

July 07, 2025

Arsenal have completed the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £51 million, securing their second major addition of the summer.

The 26-year-old Spanish midfielder has signed a five-year deal with the Gunners following the activation of his release clause. The move had already been pre-agreed in March, in order to stave off interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Zubimendi, who helped Spain lift the Euro 2024 title, brings a mix of composure, tactical smarts and defensive steel to Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, a fellow San Sebastian native, hailed the new arrival, stating that he “will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team”.

Zubimendi made more than 230 appearances for Sociedad and played a pivotal role in their Copa del Rey success and Champions League return. His signing follows Kepa Arrizabalaga’s move from Chelsea, while deals for Christian Norgaard and Viktor Gyokeres are also in the pipeline.

“I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me,” the newbie stated.

Having replaced outgoing midfielders Jorginho and Thomas Partey, Arsenal see him as a long-term anchor in midfield as they aim to enhance their options.
