Man U Youngster to Miss England Call-Up

March 14, 2024

Playing for one’s national team is an honour for any sportsperson; unfortunately, Kobbie Mainoo will miss the chance despite his sterling record at Manchester United.

England coach Gareth Southgate is expected today, Thursday 14 March, to list the players he has chosen for his team that will face Brazil and Belgium in a pair of international friendly games at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on 23 and 26 March, respectively.

Many would think that with 10 appearances since the start of year – while showing a calm and composed style of play that has made Mainoo a vital cog in Erik ten Hag’s United campaign machine – that the 18-year-old midfielding prodigy would easily make Southgate’s squad, but sadly he has not.

He has been capped several times for England’s Under-19, Under-18 and Under-17 teams, and remains a watched talent; so much so that Ghana’s national team are calling on him to play for them.

Times may change yet and Southgate might reconsider his choices, as he has called Mainoo “fabulous”. He has also said that “it will be good to monitor him as we go forward.”
