Man U to Release Jadon Sancho

February 19, 2026

Manchester United has reportedly made a definitive decision to let Jadon Sancho leave for free this summer.

Despite a contract clause allowing a 12-month extension, the Red Devils have opted not to trigger it, prioritising the removal of his £200 000-a-week wages from the books over securing a transfer fee.

Sancho is currently enduring an underwhelming loan spell at Aston Villa. Since his move, the 25-year-old winger has struggled for consistency, managing only six English Premier League starts and failing to score in the top flight this season.

His lone goal for the Villans came in the Europa League, bringing his total to just one goal in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Many critics cite Sancho’s decline following a high-profile fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023.

Subsequent loans to Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea – the latter resulting in Chelsea paying a £5 million penalty to avoid a permanent transfer – failed to reignite his form. Having cost United £73 million in 2021, Sancho’s departure as a free agent would cement his status as one of the club’s costliest transfer disappointments.
