Man City Not Giving Up Title Hunt, Says Guardiola
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, is adamant that his team’s Premier League title hopes are still strong after they lost 2-1 to Newcastle on Tuesday, 29 January.
The reigning champions got off to a good start, thanks to striker Sergio Aguero’s stunning goal in the first 24 seconds of play.
However, it was the Magpies who pulled off a shocking win, after Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie scored a goal apiece in the second half.
With this loss, one would think that the Citizens’ desire to clinch another title would be in doubt. Speaking to reporters after the match, however, Guardiola insisted that this is not the case.
He said: “We’re still in January … there are still a lot of matches to play … there are a lot of tough games to play against sides trying to stay in this division, or playing to get into the Europa League or the Champions League. In our case, we will do our best to be there and not to give up.”
